At B&S we provide easy access to premium consumer goods and are committed to making sustainable alternatives equally accessible. As part of our sustainability ambitions, we set out to identify and expand the products in our offering that integrate responsible practices. Our goal is to offer a minimum of 2,000 sustainable product alternatives by 2030 and make them easily available to our customers.
A product selection based on sustainability credentials
Together with our suppliers, we actively assess our offering to determine which specific sustainability criteria are met and identify impact-conscious items. To feature the items selected after this screening, we have introduced Sustainable Choice: our new selection dedicated to highlighting the brands and products in our portfolio that integrate responsible practices. This range is intended as a guide to help our customers make informed choices in a simple and reliable way. As such, it will be integrated as a separate section in some of our webshops, as is already the case with an initial product selection on our B2B food e-commerce platform kingofreach.com.
Areas covered
Brands and products highlighted by our Sustainable Choice selection meet specific attributes related to three main areas.
Nature Protection
Reducing negative impacts on the environment
Fair Conditions
Respecting human rights
Animal Welfare
Protecting animals' quality of life
How we do this
We carefully select sustainability labels, certifications, systems and schemes based on a number of screening criteria, such as external validation or compliance with the ISEAL Code, reduction of negative impacts on the sector level and going beyond minimum legal requirements and transparency of requirements. These criteria are further divided into three levels: brand and supplier, product and packaging. To explain in detail how we arrived at this selection and the methodology used, we have developed the B&S Sustainable Choice Scorecard.
In addition, our Supplier Code of Conduct clarifies what we expect from our suppliers in relation to environmental, social and governance matters. This also means we expect our direct suppliers to operate and collaborate with partners that comply with the minimum standards set out in the Code.
An ongoing initiative
This is just the beginning. Sustainable Choice is an ongoing effort, and we will continue to work closely with our suppliers to build a strong portfolio of sustainable goods. We intend to continue to provide transparent information to our partners as we roll out this selection on our online platforms across all our focus areas.
